AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
Christmas is coming the orders are in.

Is the top of the range AirMac Pro worth coughing up for?

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
No, basically.

I've always loved my Apple products, had them all, but Apple are starting to piss me off. Their technology is no where near as high end as they make out.

The air is a gimmick and not worth it, but of course your experience may be different.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
I've had 2 15'' MacBook Pros, the last I got nearly 2 years ago.

I won't be getting another, best part of 2 bags is better spent elsewhere.

Plus in regards to the iPhone (had three of them), Android has really upped it's game and is so much more usable and less paranoid, it's unreal. Apple is run by lawyers and marketeers now, all they do is litigate and get their advertising bang on. It's already been shown that the latest iPhone is about 2 years behind equivalent Android phones.

I'm not a brand whore, I will go where it suits me and there isn't an Apple product our currently that isn't bettered elsewhere for less money.

Sidney, 2 years behind in what respect?

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
Apple has lost the plot and is becoming an also ran. I can do as much on my 60 quid Nokia 520 as I could with mu iphone 5 that I took for a swim last summer, and top end Samsung and Sony phones make the iphone look shit nowadays. The sooner it realises it cant monopolise an operating system the better for it as google and Microsoft have it done for.

I saw a review in a PC. Mag that put it at the very top agsinst the best PC laptops. Its very much a Ferrari though, if that's what you need. I bought one to run Logic Pro X on which it does well. I did get 20% discount though.

2 years behind in this respect

And remember this wasn't posted by one of the android/google love in companies like Samsung, this is from an editor of a tech website.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
Forget Samsung and Sony, fucking HTC M8 fucking pisses over the new Apple bendy phone.

I had 3 iphones and loved them but I loved them because they were cutting edge and leading the pack. They have fallen so far behind it's unreal, Android has become a fucking brilliant OS.

I fear for Apple, shame because I loved my Apple stuff. Buying an Apple product is an experience and their marketing is easily the best but the products are no more than average at best.

Sidney, that Twitter pic is a tad ambiguous. What does the latest Nexus have that the 6 doesn't?
I'm no Apple fan, I just want to hear the evidence as I fear it's all a bit smoke and mirrors.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
The operating system alone makes macs worth it. To be fair, in terms of specification, they arent much more expensive than an similarly specified windows laptop.

Also, because OSX is optimised to run on apple specific machines, it runs perfectly.

I currently have a MacPro. a MacBook pro and an 11" MacBook Air, the latter being my favourite for its blend of performance, portability and battery life (11 hours of basic use / 8 hours of heavy use)

"They have fallen so far behind it's unreal"

64 bit technology
ApplePay
Continuity
iOS 8 and Yosemite make Mac, iPhone, iPad and Appletv work seamlessly together.

Yeah, they're falling way behind. I mean, that's why Samsung's profits are in the shitter.

Here's a suggestion, if you don't have a clue keep your comments to a minimum. That way you won't sound so fucking daft.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
I've spent the last year running my business via a MacBook Air after four years using a PC laptop.

Both were good but I much prefer the using Mac on daily basis. Coincidentally the company has had its best twelve months since I bought the MBA. But if Macs suddenly became illegal and I had to return to a Windows machine then I wouldn't be suicidal about it.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
BTW, anyone that puts their personal detail on their android device (banking, credit cards etc.) is a gold plated fucking moron. Your information is as safe as leaving your wallet in the High Street and expecting it to be there when you go to get it a week later.

Android has been hacked to the point where nothing is secure on it, I don't care how slick they appear to be. I'll stick with "paranoid" Apple devices any day. Any company that pisses the NSA off with their security measures is a good thing in my books.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
Used to love Apple (Publishing work, 90s)

Now, too much "style" over substance. At twice the price of others just as good or better.

Need to upgrade my SAMSUNG phone. WIll I pay 2x more for an iPhone? I don't think I will.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
In my experience Apple is more secure and doesn't get hacked etc. like others do.

The few times I've needed it (and sometimes it can be very important that it is sorted), the aftercare at Apple has been miles better than when I've had problems with a microsoft computer.

Bloody expensive though, whatever way you look at it.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
Piston I agree with you on the Android storage side, however the iPhone's "new" features have been on android phones for 2 years.

I have both, and both are strong operating systems with subtle differences.

Onto the main post - I've had my MacBook Pro for nearly 6 years and after putting an SSD and a touch more RAM in, it's still pretty Solid.

I'd like a new one but I really don't think they justify the price - if I upgrade I think I'll get a Windows Desktop as I only really need Lightroom and Photoshop which runs just as well on a Windows machine.

Re: AirMacPro - Worth the dough?
I am truly impressed with the brand loyalty Apple has created, it is very admirable and is a stroke of genius really. At one point Apple was holding greater cash reserves than the US government.

So what has Android come up with in the LAST 2 years that the iPhone doesn't have but will in 2 years time?
